Warriors Gayle & Roach to feature in 2011 Big Bash opener

WILDFIRE West Indies skipper Chris Gayle will don his Warriors fatigues once again as WA hosts the opener of the revamped 2010-11 Twenty20 Big Bash competition at the WACA Ground…

WA’s international drawcard, big-hitting Gayle returns to the Warriors ranks with compatriot fast-bowler Kemar Roach.

Other overseas players competing in Australia’s domestic tournament include West-Indian all-rounders Kieron Pollard (South Australia) and Dwayne Bravo (Victoria), Pakistanis Rana Naved-ul-Hasan (Tasmania) and Shahid Afridi (South Australia), and exhilarating Sri Lankan batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan (New South Wales)…

“I witnessed firsthand the growing stature of the KFC Big Bash when I toured here with South Africa and I can’t wait for the opportunity of guiding the Retravision Warriors in the 2010-11 competition,” (Warriors Coach, Mike) Arthur said.

“Obviously Chris Gayle and Kemar Roach will be important additions to the Warriors line-up, but some of Australia’s brightest young stars have emerged in the KFC Big Bash in the past few seasons and we’ll also be counting on our local talent to stand up and make their mark on the big stage.

“Hopefully that mix of international stars and exciting local talent will be the ingredients we need to perform well in the tournament and also qualify for the 2011 Champions League Twenty20…”

The Warriors will be hoping to improve on their disappointing Twenty20 campaign last year, when they finished fourth after a promising start.
