Jamaica middle-order batsman Brendan Nash has returned from a brief sabbatical in Australia and is raring to assist his country to a record-breaking fifth consecutive regional four day title.

The 34-year-old lost his place in the West Indies team after the loss to India in June 2011 and embarked on a period of introspection in Australia.

Nash, who returned rejuvenated to score 173 in a trial match last week, told the Jamaica Observer that his team can make it five in a row.

“I looked at it and I said ‘boy I want to be a part of Jamaica going for five-in-a-row’,” said Nash, “I’m sure that has never been done and it’s something I have never done in any form of cricket — winning five competitions in a row.”

Jamaica opens their campaign on Friday against the Windward Islands at Sabina Park.

The left-handed Nash, who scored 626 runs at 62.60 in 2011, hopes a similar performance will put him back in the West Indies team.

“Yes, I’m still interested (to play for the West Indies),” he said, “I don’t know where I stand in terms of the selection. I just have to go on and play for Jamaica and help where I can and be the leader I’ve been for the last few seasons.”

Addressing his sabbatical in Australia, Nash said, “Going back to Australia was more mental because I was disillusioned with where I stood and with my future with the West Indies.”

Nash also believes that his failure in Test series against Pakistan and India in 2011 were due to confidence issues.

Brendan Nash has 1,103 runs in 21 Tests at 33.42 with two centuries and eight fifties.
