The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) has taken note of two one-sided, inaccurate and misleading articles which appeared during the weekend in editions of the Guyana newspaper, theKaieteur News.

These two articles are so titled: “WICB perplexed by bizarre WIPA antics”; and “WIPA ‘Big Four’ collect GY$11m each other players get GY$3.5m, while WIPA Pocketed whooping (sic) GY$30m.”

While the information contained in the first article is grossly inaccurate and misleading, the second article is highly defamatory and WIPA has no choice but to refer it to its Attorneys-at-law for advice and action on the publication since the issues relating to the said article is already before the courts of Trinidad and Tobago.

With both stories, and inconsistent with the principles of good journalism, WIPA has not been contacted for comment by the Kaieteur News, and has been denied any opportunity to respond.

WIPA continues to implore media houses to practice the highest standard of journalism in reporting their stories.

Accuracy, fairness and balance are three of the tenets of good journalism and WIPA encourages media houses to continue to observe these standards of excellence.

If further information is needed, please do not hesitate to contact the West Indies Players’ Association at 1-868-624 9472 (office) for further information or clarification.
