Once again my gripe is how unrepresentative this West Indies Brand is. Kallicharan was part of that domination period as was Gomes and if we are to be inclusive then we should reflect that in how we present ourselves and both should have been there to show our diversity and not show all black people.
In fact Croft played very few tests and went to South Africa and he is the only one of that trip to have survived and recognised in this way. Austin, a fantastic allrounder, roams Sabina saying he used to be... ridden with drugs and affected by the scorn he faced when he returned. Chang, Matthis and others are in the same boat.
What that rebel team along with the English equivalent including Gatting and Gooch may have paved the way for change but Croft is not great.
Those of you who may have followed my words in my many posts and who are objective will appreciate that I wish to see West Indies representative of the people who represent us.
Lord Constantine, as he became, mobilised the West Indian community to fight in the war, the Indian fought for Queen and Country and we fight to be recognised for our efforts when Remembrance Day comes. In fact we were in the absolute minority but should our effort be ignored BY THE MAJORITY WHITES? No and in the same we should not ignore the efforts of the Whites, Indians and others in between when we celebrate our Cricketing history.
I believe there was a West Indian group who was kept captive in Gallipoli (subject to correction).
Black people, do not be complacent with the sporting majority in the Windies. At home and abroad we are forced to ensure Black faces feature, in some cases unjustifiably, in practically everything so learn the matter of how we present our diverse people.
